Laura’s Yoga – About Me
I am a qualified Yoga Teacher and studied in Australia and with The British School of Yoga in Devon, I am currently furthering my studies.
My fitness career started 17 years ago as a freelance Aerobic & Gym Instructor after finishing University. In Stamford I managed a local gym, then set up a Personal Training Business and local Pilates/Yoga classes which were very successful, and then went to live in Australia for a few years.
In Australia I experienced a very bad back injury and had spinal surgery, the next 9 months I was very limited in what I could do, and very frustrated physically and mentally having always been fit and healthy. I believe that Yoga got me better in the end and a positive mind can go a long way in healing. I joined a Yoga academy and studied many different types of Yoga in Australia and continued my studies in Devon on my return to the UK.
My best advice is to say come along to a class and try it, every teacher has their own style and if you have tried a class before and not enjoyed it, try again, my classes are for everyone, you don’t have to be experienced, you need a Yoga mat, and a blanket and pillow for relaxation. You will need to complete a health check questionnaire before starting the class so please arrive 5 mins early.
My classes include; Centring time to start, focusing the mind, slowing everything down, casting away the days thoughts, then we slowly limber and warm up, our Asanas (Physical Postures) include Sun Salutations, Standing postures, Balance postures, and Sitting, we work the Core muscles which include some Pilates exercises, relaxing long stretches, Pranayama (Breathing Practice) and finally, our Relaxation time, Visualisation journeys, Meditation.
I love to see people float out of the class at the end with a relaxed smile and looking so much better than when they walked in! We are all under more pressure in today’s modern life, and this is why Yoga and Meditation is becoming more popular. Once you experience Yoga and its rewards you will always want to practice Yoga. I see it as a ‘natural medicine’ and can help reduce stress, makes you feel more in control and balanced, it reduces depression and anxiety, the body feels more alive and healthy, you feel re-energised, strong and able to cope better in many life situations.
‘Yoga Relaxation days’, treat yourself to a day of bliss, learn more about different types of Yoga, explore different breathing techniques, learn how to use affirmations for a more positive life, music, exercises for a healthy spine, colour therapy, visualisations, Meditation, & Tai Chi meet people with the same interest. There are 2 Sundays per year, the next one coming up is Sun 8th July 2012, please see my Retreat page for more information and pictures.
